Meet, Greet, and Pet Get Together in SE Wisc.

We are set for our first event! Thank you all for responding.

Just a note, we will meet at the Hall's home, do a little intro, take a tour (you will really be surprised at what you see!), do a cook out (thank you Rob for providing for this), have some Q&A, then sit around and talk reptiles.

Should be a blast. This will be a special event that will only get better as we schedule future Greet, Meet, and Pet events.

I will either have photos and videos up for everyone Sunday night or early next week to make everyone else jealous

Excitement in the Supreme Gecko facility

I was sitting on a stool working on numbering the new hatches when I turned and looked at another shelf. On it was a container with vermiculite in it and some green things moving around. I realized that the chamleons had starting hatching and I starting yelling for Wally. I was so excited I opened the top of the container to look in and immediately had babies crawling all over my hands! (Note - a year ago that would not have been a good thing for me) Wally had to grab the tank they were going in quickly before they were everywhere. Nine babies last night and 2 today. They are so cool when they are small. I'll keep you updated. (dad is to the right!)

Days at Night

Suprme Gecko Day Gecko
Our reptile facility resides in our basement.
It makes life so much easier to have all the animals together in one place for feeding and cleaning.
However, we have one enclosure in our family room. It includes 3 animals- one male and two female giant day geckos (Phelsuma grandis madagascarensis).
Late in the evening, I usually catch up on Emails, Facebook, and reptile forum reading while half-watching a game on TV. I sometimes find myself reaching for the remote to hit the mute rather than flipping channels.
It usually starts with a grumbling gargled sound coming from the day gecko tank. One bright green gecko will approach another and vocalize the fact that they are approaching the other gecko. This is followed by a bunch of head bobbing and at times licking if the two are just passing like ships in the night. Sometimes this with result however in a clicking and screeching conversation between the two and then a playful game of tag through the enclosure.
Listening, and watching this activity is a real treat! These unique animals provide so much fun that they will forever be invited into our family room space.

Hatches Daily

This week has been a busy one in the Supreme Gecko facility. The eggs are hatching daily right now and babies need to be watered and fed throughout the day. I enjoy watching them eat and grow as time goes on. Last months hatchlings have really grown and are showing their colors more and more each day. It has become a race to see who finds the hatches ( I win most of the time:)

Do You BlogTalkRadio

Have you been to BlogTalkRadio? What a great resource on reptiles! The site is made up of a bunch of radio shows. Listen live or better yet, download to your iPod or personal listening device (like I do) and listen at work... um at lunch of course!
My favorite reptile shows are-
Late Night Leo
Gary Orner
Reptile Radio with Larry and BT
and my favorite- Monster Boas
you can do a quick search on these names or just lookup reptiles for all of them

Just a quick review of one- Last night I listen live to Gary Orner from Pro Herp. Gary is getting into leopard geckos BIG TIME. It was a bunch of fun listening to his description of his care for the animals and also which morphs he is working with. I may have to download this show to listen to it again!

Crested Baby Update

As Nanette has taken over the Blog site, I thought I would jump in quickly with a post of my own-

We are just now getting some hatchings from our crested geckos. It has been a long, grooling, boring winter as the Midwest temps have been very strange and it has affected our facility quite a bit.

Here is one that is just making it out of the egg.

Today worked in the gecko facility and fed animals. Collected more leopard gecko eggs to add to the incubators. When these eggs start to hatch it is going to be so much fun!

Enjoy an article by a non-reptile person

I had fun writing an article from the view of a non - gecko person in the beginning. It amazed me how I have grown to enjoy working with the animals. For a few good laughs check out the article " Reptiles on My Terms! at http://ezinearticles.com/?Reptiles---On-My-Terms!&id=2236653
